Five Ways to Tell You’re Not Really a User Experience Designer

More often than not these days, when people say “user experience designer”, they really mean “user interface designer”. To make clarification easier, I’m starting a list.

Here are five ways to tell that you’re not really a UX designer.

  1. Behavioral data never influences your design decisions
  2. Your “years of experience” tell you enough about how to arrange an interface
  3. Flow is never worked out with wireframes and prototypes
  4. You don’t see the need for test groups
  5. Experience = interface (in your mind)

This is not meant to be a complete list. Contributions are welcome.
